The Trumbull House was built in 1919 by Harry Trumbull, a master builder, as his personal residence. In 1985, the Fuller family purchased the house and three years later opened it as the first bed and breakfast in Hanover. The house was sold in 1991 to the present owners who reopened it as a B&B in 1995. Hilary, a Wharton MBA, gave up the corporate fast lane to create a career at home and raise her five kids, then ages 3, 7, 9, 11 and 13.
Still happily cooking those breakfasts, Hilary enjoys running the B&B and appreciates the freedom it provides her to enjoy her kids. Her oldest son, Hamilton, is enjoying working for Capital One in its Richmond, VA headquarters. Her oldest daughter and college basketball star, Meredith, graduated magna cum laude from St. Lawrence University and, after briefly dabbling with a career in modeling, got her USCG Captains License. She is back in the British Virgin Islands for a second winter, this time as a Captain of the "Blue Flame", a 62' Swan sailboat based out of Virgin Gorda. Vicky graduated from Rice University in Houston this past spring and is now in Niger, Africa as part of the Peace Corps. She may not have running water or electricity, but she does have a cell phone! Jamison is a junior at Suffolk University in Boston and is enjoying an internship in marketing research in addition to his regular course load. Margaret is a junior at Hanover High School and is trying hard to keep her mom as busy as she was when all five kids were home! She made All State in volleyball this fall and has quit basketball (where she started on the varsity team both freshman and sophomore years) to join the swim team. The shorter season allows her to try out for some of the local spring musical productions, and she'll be in the chorus of the NCCT teen musical, "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying". Margaret spends summers and vacations as a fashion model for Elite Model Management in New York City as part of their New Faces division. She spent a week on location at the Greenbriar Resort in WV during the summer and is featured on the cover of the fall issue of the new southern lifestyle magazine, Garden & Gun.
During the summers, Hilary and kids take some time off and go to a cottage on the Great Peconic Bay on the east end of Long Island. The location makes commuting into NYC with model Margaret much easier, and the other kids all have friends and jobs out there. The B&B is well tended to by Gail and Peter Haubrich, our summer innsitters, who are currently in their sixth year of managing the Trumbull House during the summer.
